Steve Rogers takes a stand for the right cause, then surrenders for some colossally stupid reasons, apparently having a revelation about the nature of civilian casualties and firefighters injured in war (as though he had not been through World War II and numerous other conflicts). The entire superhero community is divided, siding with one of these two heroes as they go to war with one another.Ībout half of the major heroes in this story act out of character. By contrast, Iron Man becomes the leader of the pro-registration forces. When the US government insists all people with superhuman abilities register their identities or face arrest, Steve Rogers takes a stand against this blatantly autocratic overreach of powers. Mark Millar and McNiven’s 2006 Marvel crossover Civil War is incredibly divisive among fans.
